Ungrim Ironfist

 The Slayer King

Finally done for Dwarfcember, Ungrim Ironfist the Last Slayer King.
I had a great time painting this classic mini, even though there ws a hell of a lot of detail and some hard to get to places that required many repaints after errors and smudges.

The flag came out ok and certainly makes him stand out in the army as well as the rock he is on.
I finally decided to give him a larger base so I could fit the whole dragon cloak on and give the model some extra status, rather than thinking only about the rules for base size, and I'm glad I did.

Warlord Grom (MKII)

Grom is back and now better than ever!

The new Grom is the Toadgobbler Goblin King model from Avatar Wars and I really love this model. Heaps of detail like the toad and barrel on his belt to the crown and wolf pelt cloak. What I love the most is that the model really is fat, with a studios attention to proper obesity in the flesh and skin especially around the arms as well as the gut and neck.

The wolves I replaced with Fenris wolves which are larger and more dynamic and a load more fierce, even if they were harder to place with the chariot. I did put some reins on but they detracted from the overall feel of the model so I took them away.

The chariot itself remains as it is a spectacular sulpt, incorporating mammoth tusks and metalwork. Some gobbos surely put in their greatest efforts for Grom the Paunch, Warlord Grom, King Grom!
May your battles be like you is only just warmin' up, your immensity!

Now... to find Niblit...

Grombrindal -The White Dwarf

There have been so many editions of Grombrindal - the White Dwarf since he became Games Workshop's mascot and title for their promotional magazine, and to be honest, I think this is the model they gave away on exactly said mag. How could I resist?

Dwarven Banners

Whilst not all complete, I thought it was time to put the Dwarf banners on display as the army slowly gets painted over decades.

Runsmith says "Get off my Lawn!"
Awesome Dark Heaven sculpt that I absolutely love.

King Kazador of Karak Eight Peaks
I was still using enamels back then.

Burlock Damminson  -Dwarf Engineer

Valkerie Banner for the Slayers
(based off the Valk drawing in Legends and Lore)

The very first of the dwarf banners for the dwarven clansmen

Dwarf Miners Banner

Clan Volcan
I bought this motely crew in Adelaide when I had a few coins, but no other options for dwarfs.
Although bad sculpts, they are better than mine and have kinda grown on me.

Wereshark

Dwarven Pirate Wereshark

The Dwarven Pirate Wereshark by Reaper Dark Heaven miniatures was an instant hit with me when I first spied him in the store. Such a complex model too, with all kinds of detail including his treasure chest and key, spyglass and pistol at his belt and companion hermit crab and scallop at his pegleg.

Even though this model needed to be painted before his two part assembly, the process was easy, with only the smallest amount of greenstuff needed to fill the gaps.

The rest of the detail was a challenge, but ultimately a great deal of fun to paint and as an added bonus, I finished him on my birthday, giving me a great sense of accomplishment.

I'll certainly enlist this guy as a hero in Long Drong's Slayer unit.

I remember going out on a cray boat when I was very young, and they pulled up hermit crabs as well as crays. Although miniscule, I tried to paint the hemit crab exactly as I remembered them. So cool.

Grom the Paunch (MKI)

I purchased the chariot and wolves, but Grom and Niblit were awol, so I decided to make Grom from spare parts and putty. I didn't really take too long about it because it was more of a silly test project and a way to make use of some spare bits.

The wolves were already half painted, so I touched them up slightly, but again, really didn't spend too much time on them as I was preparing for Grom MKII to arrive from Avatars of War, making use of the Toadgobbler model for Grom. I nabbed some Fenris wolves for the chariot and I'm glad I did, because the chariot model itself with its mammoth tusks and sculpted skulls and warheads is a really spectacular model.

Stay tuned for Warlord Grom MKII.

Skarsnick and Gobbla

From the foggy island came Skarsnick with a busted prodda and Gobbla MKI, which I kinda preferred to the actual model of Gobbla, perhaps because I have a thing for mohawks.

I reworked these two for ages, repainting and changing the colour scheme till finally deciding on the yellow of the Bad Moon to tie the army together.

Once I got some better moss and bushes I updated him again, and now he is ready to lead the monopose forces of the green tide.

Ye Olde Necromancer

Dug up this fella that I had painted quite a while ago.
Tried for a great amount of detail on the robes and cloth - inscriptions of magic.
Perhaps he will... raise.... some interest.

Goblin Shaman

I bought this Goblin Shaman with a few other gobbos and a rocklobber and he had a fairly decent paint job on him - or so I thought until I had a good look with my new jewelers headset.

Armed with only a few small brushes and some very limited acrylics, I began removing the flash that had been left on the model and then touching up the paint. Before long I had drastically changed the model and just kept going, using the pre-existing paint job more like a basecoat and moving up from there.
